Why Brain Health Matters
Brain health is so important, but you don’t notice it until it’s malfunctioning—we take a healthy brain for granted until it’s not there! The brain plays a role in nearly every function of your body. Critical thinking, imagination, mood, memory, sleep quality, digestion, and the active control center balancing hormones are a few of the brain’s important functions. So if your brain isn’t working properly, you will suffer in many ways. Neurofeedback is an important tool for maintaining brain health.
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback literally means “brain” and “input”, where the brain is monitored and input is given instantly. Neurofeedback specifically monitors brainwaves, looks for irregularities, then produces a signal that is designed to correct the irregularity and guide the brainwave back into a healthy pattern. With repeated exercises, over time the brain can sustain this healthy pattern without the need for the signal. There is improved brain regulation, which can reduce or eliminate many neurological symptoms.
It can be beneficial for those suffering with:
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
What if you could eliminate or reduce the above chronic neurological conditions just by watching a movie or listening to music?
The amazing technology of the Clear Mind Focus system works by aligning brainwaves to a healthy pattern while you are engaged in a movie or music. How simple is that? The therapy occurs in a 2-step process
The first step is to analyze the current state of brain conductivity with a 30 minute procedure called “brain mapping”. An EEG is performed and recorded to evaluate specific areas of brain wave activity. The data is then uploaded into a large database and compared to optimal results. From there, a report is generated showing whether you have excess or under activity in various brain areas. Finally, a treatment protocol is recommended to rebalance your brain waves to a healthier activity pattern.
Treatment is technically advanced, but easy on the patient (and provider!). You get connected to glasses that emit light pulses, electrodes to pick up brain activity, and a computer system that will either play a video or music while you receive therapy. The system provides audio and visual cues to change timing and activity patterns of your brain. Each session lasts about 30 minutes. Twenty sessions are recommended, after which a repeat EEG mapping session is performed to document changes. Some people notice improvement after 3-5 sessions. Those with chronic, severe conditions may require 40 sessions to gain maximum relief. The very exciting thing is that once results are obtained, the effect will last indefinitely. That’s right! The brain is re-trained and retains the balance it learned in the process.
Neurofeedback is NOT New
It’s been around since the 1960’s. There are decades of research and case studies that document its effectiveness in improving brain health. Advances in computer technology have made it possible for doctors to easily administer neurofeedback in their clinics. I’m so excited to offer this technology in my practice. I’d love to help you balance your brain for better health!
